Middle Sister, the musical project of Chicago singer-songwriter Hannah Lieb, pulls influence from folk, rock and jazz to create some semblance of indie rock. Lieb first found her songwriting voice at the age of 13 on an antique, out-of-tune, upright piano belonging to her great-grandmother. Originally from St. Louis, she has been performing her original music since age 14, going on to study music at Millikin University with a focus in vocal jazz. Since moving to Chicago in 2018, she’s found a community in music—hosting intimate backyard shows with friends and making her rounds through small venues as a devoted patron and performer.
Lieb first introduced herself as “Middle Sister” in April 2024, though she’s been one for much longer. Middle Sister’s debut album “Next to a Memory” chronicles the artist’s growth through stages of loss and love. The album delivers vulnerable, honest and sometimes satirical lyrics with powerful vocals, supported by the unique and thoughtful musicianship of Dove Hollis (guitar), Adrian Politzer (bass) and Steven Ruteledge (drums).
