Each month, one of CHIRP Radio’s tastemaker DJs curates a selection of vinyl specially designed to make your ears happy. This month’s installment is curated by Bobby Evers:

Both Sides Now: The Breakup Album

Whether you’re the dumper or the dumpee, nothing can be more cathartic than blissing out on an album that says it better with music than we ever could with words. While all the couples are taking advantage of Valentine’s Day dinner specials, we welcome all lonely hearts to another edition of Both Sides Now where we’ll meditate on the concept of the Breakup Album. Listening to three great breakup albums all the way through in a vinyl only set from CHIRP DJ Bobby Evers, we will all be alone together. (Couples welcome too).

Fleetwood Mac – Rumours (1977)
You’ve already heard the rumors, that Christine was cheating with the sound guy, that Lindsey and Stevie broke up, then Stevie and Mick hooked up, that they spilled all the tea to Cameron Crowe in Rolling Stone before the album had even come out. If they ever made a movie of this era, they’d have to bring back the X-Rating. Now let’s listen to the album, track by track, all the way through to see how they processed the drama.

Fiona Apple – Tidal (1996)
Supposedly the boy that Fiona Apple lost her virginity to expressed interest in another girl, so she recorded a demo tape at 16 that got her a record deal and launched a music career, and all teenage poets born at a certain time were forever changed.

American Football – American Football (1999)
Emo has many iterations and many detractors, but most people agree that American Football’s self titled album was a landmark of the genre and the Midwest emo scene at the time (even if none of the artists associated with the scene wanted to be called that. But looking back, all the songs are about a failed relationship. Let’s get after that and see what’s underneath.

Step into a realm where the music takes center stage and vinyl records reign supreme. Introducing Both Sides Now: A CHIRP Vinyl Listening Bar — a monthly oasis for music aficionados and introverts alike. Nestled in the cozy upstairs room of Schubas Tavern, this unique event happens every first Wednesday of the month. Our vinyl listening bar, inspired by the captivating tradition popularized in post-World War II Japan, celebrates the pure joy of listening. Embracing the ethos of listening bars around the world, we prioritize the sublime experience of vinyl, brought to life through stellar sound systems. Experience your favorite albums played front to back in full high fidelity, while enjoying drink and food offerings from Schubas Tied House. Let the DJs from CHIRP Radio 107.1FM curate the sonic journey each month as you savor the symphony. “Both Sides Now” is your sanctuary, an introvert’s dream where the focus is on the music, not loud conversations or bustling dance floors. Join us and immerse yourself in the world of vinyl, one needle drop at a time.
